Grizz Kids Reading Contest


The Grizz Kids reading contest will begin on February 1 and continue through March 31. Come into any county library and pick up your reading record- complete it, and get a free ticket to the game on the Salt Lake County Library night!
We will be having a special kick-off event on February 16 at 7:00pm, with Grizzby himself, so be sure to come that night to meet him and practice your shooting!

Pokemon

Come and play Pokemon in the Library!

Beginning February 2, we will be hosting a Pokemon Game Night on the first Tuesday of each month- so bring your cards and your friends from 7-8pm for some fun!

Ages 8 and up, please, and children under age 12 cannot be left alone in the library. We will not be providing instruction on how to play.

Storyteller at Wheeler Farm

Storyteller Donald Davis will be doing a free performance at Wheeler Farm on Monday, February 1 at 7:00pm.
Please register to attend at slcolibrary.org beginning Thursday, January 28.
This program is for families, but due to space limitations, no strollers will be allowed.

Caldecott, Newbery, and Printz Winners Announced!

The 2010 winners of the Caldecott, Newbery, and Printz awards were announced yesterday.

The Caldecott Medal (for illustration) was awarded to Lion and the Mouse, a nearly wordless retelling of Aesop's fable illustrated and written by Jerry Pinkney.


Honors went to All the World, illustrated by Marla Frazee, and written by Liz Garton Scanlon, and Red Sings from the Treetops, illustrated by Pamela Zagarenski, written by Joyce Sidman.




The Newbery Medal (awarded for Children's Literature) went to When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead.



Honors were awarded to Claudette Colvin: Twice Towards Justice by Phillip Hoose, The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate by Jacqueline Kelly, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin, and The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg by Rodman Philbrick.



The Printz Award (for outstanding Young Adult literature) went to Going Bovine by Libba Bray.



Honors went to Charles and Emma: The Darwin's Leap of Faith by Deborah Heiligman, The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey, Punkzilla by Adam Rapp, and Tales of the Madman Underground: An Historical Romance, 1973 by John Barnes.

Storytimes are starting up again

Storytimes will begin again on January 13!
The schedule is the same as always: Wednesdays at 10:15, 11:15, and 1:15, and Thursdays at 10:15 for babies, 11:15, and 1:15.
No registration is required, just come and have fun!
