Utah State Fair Read and Win program

It's time again for the Utah State Fair Read and Win Program! Come into the Library to pick up your entry form.

Read 10 books of any length, and write the title on the entry form. Have a parent, guardian, or librarian initial next to the title, and when the form is all filled out send it in for your gift pack. The gift pack includes:

• Gate entry pass to the Utah State Fair, September 10-20, 2009
• Ribbon bookmark
• coupon for a free drink- redeemable at the fair
• coupon for a free ride- redeemable at the fair

All entries must be postmarked July 23, 2009 (no late entries will be accepted).

April is National Poetry Month

To celebrate, the library has set up a "Poet-tree". Come in and add your favorite poem (original or otherwise) to our tree.
Also, memorize a poem and recite it to a librarian for a prize! Details are available at the library...

Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest

Get out your pencils, pens, paints, and crayons! The annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest begins February 27 and will run through April 3, 2009.

Come into the library for an entry form, then submit it along with your work to KUED. Only one entry is allowed per person, and the contest is open to kids from Kindergarten through 3rd grade. There will be three national winners for each grade level, and the grand prize is a Flat Panel TV with a DVD player!

Grizzbee visits the Library!

On Tuesday Grizzbee and Scott Thauwald from the Utah Grizzlies hockey team came to help promote the Grizz Kids Winter Reading Program. Scott read a book and helped everyone practice making goals. It was a lot of fun!

If you haven't come in to get your reading record yet, there is still time- the program goes until March 31, and when you finish, you will get a voucher for a hockey ticket, candy, and a free book!

Valentine's Day make-and-take craft

Come to the Kid's desk on Friday (February 13) or Saturday (February 14) to make a special craft for Valentine's Day!

Grizz Kids Winter Reading Program!

The Grizz Kids Winter Reading Program has begun.

Come into the library to get your reading record- when you get it all filled out bring it back to Bingham Creek Library for your prize: candy, a free book, and a voucher for a free ticket to a hockey game!

Also, be sure to come in on February 17 at 7:00pm to meet Grizzbee and a player from the team!

Have you heard of Preschool Pioneer Library?

Preschool Pioneer Library is a FREE Internet resource designed to help children 3 to 6 years old get ready for school. It's packed with games, activities, and other materials to make learning fun and rewarding. There is a lot of great information for grown-ups, too!

The UEN (Utah Education Network) is looking for volunteers to help with a study to evaluate Preschool Pioneer. Families participating will attend two 20-minute meetings in Salt Lake City to assess the kindergarten readiness of their 4-year olds before and after using Preschool Pioneer. If you have a 4-year old (as of September 1, 2008) and want to help with this study, please sign up at your Salt Lake County Library before February 1. A UEN staff member will contact you to set up an appointment.

Even if you don't want to participate in the study, the website is available at no charge.

Beehive Books Voting

Beehive Bingo has returned!

Come into the library to pick up your Beehive Bingo reading records and nominated books. This year we have added a special category for preschoolers, which has fewer required books (and most of them are picture books). You'll get a prize for each Bingo, and a free book when you "blackout" your card.

Remember to vote for your favorites and turn in your ballots at the children's desk and help select Utah's favorite children's books for 2009!
